PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN, EXCEPT WHEN IT COMES TO PAYING THE BILL

Democrats are seeking to repeal offshore tax havens. The Times focuses on the political jockeying behind such a move. Which leads me to ask the question, what exactly is the other side on this issue? Even on the Republican side, no one can argue with a straight face FOR allowing American corporations to shirk their fair share of the tax load. We happen to be a war here? And while swelling music and patriotic pride are nice, it takes cold hard cash to pay for the supplies our armed services need to keep this country safe. OTP will be proud to publish the list of legislators who support America and those who support their campaign war chests on this issue. Sadly, the nation's top patriot has declined to use his bully pulpit on this issue. Just another example of how the dogma of "taxes are evil" gets in the way of fighting real evil.
