IF ITS NOT SCOTTISH, IT'S CRAP

Stumbled onto this op-ed from the Scotsman while on Yahoo - it's surprinsingly good. It is not by coincidence that I'm currently reading Embracing Defeat: Japan in the Wake of World War II. For all it flaws and arrogance, the American nation-building enterprise in Japan has to be judged as a success. If the Japanese can go from kamikazes to karoake, why can't the Arabs go from "shahids" to sheiks of commerce?
